SHAPE SHIFTER 02
For Yoshi Sodeoka
After meeting and discussing with Yoshi, it became evident that his artwork needed to be deeply influenced by technology. As a result, this piece is a data-driven simulation inspired by Yoshi’s work, incorporating image inputs from his acclaimed project "Infinite Ascent." Yoshi is particularly passionate about this collage, which offers a bird’s-eye view of New York City, providing a fresh and inspiring perspective. The artwork invites viewers to see the city through Yoshi’s eyes, focusing on the often-overlooked details of life.
In this new piece, data from "Infinite Ascent" is transformed into a dynamic liquid simulation that blends the pixels of Yoshi's work into a fluid, mesmerizing flow. This process was designed to capture the essence of Yoshi's artistic prowess—his ability to create harmony and movement. The simulation models the velocities of the liquid based on color: lighter tones move faster, while darker hues flow more slowly. This visual representation emphasizes the constant, ever-changing state of flow that runs through both Yoshi’s artwork and his creative process.
