The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) honor the best in the music video medium, originally conceived as an alternative to the Grammy Awards. I had the privilege of contributing to the design, style, and execution of the show's visuals, creating a cohesive and impactful visual identity.
The design drew inspiration from the iconic "Moonman"—an astronaut holding the MTV flag—floating amidst a sea of psychedelic liquid. HDRI maps were crafted from elements of each nominated video and projected onto a liquid simulation, creating a dynamic environment where the Moonman interacted with the visuals.
This approach ensured that the visuals reflected the unique colors, shapes, and themes of the nominated music videos, offering a personalized and immersive representation of the artists’ work while maintaining the VMAs' signature aesthetic.
